Note: The calculator estimates the AHV old-age pension under Art. 34 of the AHV Act (AHVG) with pension scale 44 and the figures from 2027. It takes the average income as you enter it, without revaluing earlier years, without splitting incomes during marriage and without care credits. Women of the transitional generation (born 1961 to 1969) have lower reduction rates and a supplement when they draw early. If you worked abroad, years in Switzerland may be missing, and social security agreements (for example with the EU) give you a separate pension from the other country. Anyone drawing a widow's or widower's pension also gets different figures. The compensation office calculates the exact amount with a pension forecast. Not pension advice.
How the AHV calculates your pension
Income and contribution years
The AHV looks at two things: your average income and the number of contribution years. With 44 full years you get the full pension. From 2027 it ranges from CHF 1'280 to CHF 2'560 per month. You reach the maximum pension with an average of CHF 92'160 per year. Every missing contribution year cuts the pension by about 2.3% for life.
What is added and what is deducted
- 13th AHV pension: Since December 2026, an extra monthly pension is paid every December.
- Child-raising credits: For every year with children under 16, the AHV adds a notional income of CHF 46'080. Married couples split it in half.
- Early withdrawal: Possible from 63, the pension drops by 6.8% per year for life.
- Deferral: Possible up to 70, the pension rises by 5.2 to 31.5%.
- Married couples: Together they get no more than 150% of the maximum pension, so CHF 3'840 per month.
How to get your real figures
Order your individual account statement (IK statement) free of charge from your compensation office. It shows every contribution year and your income. We explain how to read it on the page about the IK statement (in German). You can pay in gaps from the last five years, more in our article on closing AHV gaps.
Frequently asked questions about the AHV pension
What is the maximum AHV pension in 2027?
CHF 2'560 per month for a single person, CHF 33'280 per year with the 13th AHV pension. Married couples get no more than CHF 3'840 per month together. The minimum pension is CHF 1'280.
How much does a missing contribution year cost me?
About 1/44 of the pension, so roughly 2.3% per year and for life. With the maximum pension that is about CHF 58 per month. You can pay in gaps from the last five years at the compensation office.
Is early withdrawal worth it?
At 63 instead of 65 you get the pension for two more years, but 13.6% less for life. On paper it evens out just before age 78. If you are healthy and expect to live long, drawing from 65 is usually the better choice.
Why do married couples get less than two single people?
The two pensions together are capped at 150% of the maximum pension. If both have high incomes, the AHV cuts both pensions in the same proportion. In return, married people have other advantages, for example the widow's and widower's pension.
Do I have to apply for the 13th AHV pension?
No. Anyone drawing an old-age pension in December gets it automatically with the December pension. Anyone asking you for data or money for it is not the AHV.
I worked abroad. What does that mean for my AHV pension?
Only the years you contributed to the AHV count. Years abroad are usually missing, so your AHV pension is lower. Under social security agreements, for example with the EU and EFTA countries, the other country pays its own pension for your years there.
