October 2026

  1. Premium reduction in Lucerne: apply for 2027

In the canton of Lucerne, the application for the 2027 health insurance premium reduction must be submitted by today, most easily online with the Lucerne compensation office. If you apply later, the reduction only starts in a later month. Other cantons have their own deadlines. Lower your premiums

November 2026

  1. Health insurance: send your cancellation by registered post

To switch on 1 January 2027, send the cancellation of your basic health insurance by registered post by mid-November. That way you can prove it was sent. If you work at least 8 hours a week for one employer, also exclude accident cover with your insurer. You are already covered through work. Create the cancellation letter

  2. Pension fund: consider a buy-in

A buy-in to your pension fund lowers your 2026 taxes if the money reaches the fund by the end of the year. Many funds only accept buy-ins until mid-December. Ask now how much you can pay in and by when. Calculate your buy-in

  3. Review your insurance policies

Household contents, personal liability, car and supplementary health insurance: does your cover still fit your life? Check for double cover and the sum insured on your household contents policy. It is usually too late to switch for the end of 2026, so note the expiry date and notice period for the end of 2027. Which insurance you need

  4. Vote: funding the 13th AHV pension

The people and the cantons decide on a higher VAT rate (standard rate from 8.1 to 8.5 percent). It would apply from the start of 2028 at the earliest. What the 13th pension brings

  5. Pillar 3a: transfer your 2026 contribution

Pay in the full 2026 contribution (at most CHF 7'258 for employees with a pension fund). If you want to buy in for a 2025 gap, ask your foundation for the form now. Start the 3a Check

  6. Health insurance: your cancellation must have arrived

Last day to cancel your basic health insurance for 1 January 2027. If you want to go back to a lower deductible or to the standard model, tell your insurer by today as well. The postmark does not count. Health insurance helper

December 2026

  1. First 13th AHV pension in December

The 13th AHV pension is paid together with the December pension, as a supplement of one twelfth of the annual pension. The exact day depends on the compensation office, at the latest it is 20 December. How much you get

  2. Reference interest rate: new announcement from the federal government

The Federal Office for Housing publishes the reference interest rate for rents (most recently 1.25 percent). It decides whether you can ask for a lower rent. Lower your rent

  3. Rent: ask for a reduction, send the letter

If your rent is based on a reference rate higher than 1.25 percent, ask for the reduction in writing. With quarterly termination dates and three months' notice, it applies from 1 April 2027. Template and calculation

  4. Taxes: pay deductible costs this year

What you pay by 31 December counts for your 2026 taxes, for example donations and further training. Doctor and dentist costs only count above a threshold (5 percent of net income for federal tax). So it pays to bundle larger treatments in the same year. Save taxes

  5. Pillar 3a: transfer your buy-in for 2025

Only transfer the money once your foundation has confirmed. Paying by 15 December leaves enough time for the money to arrive. Calculate your gap

  6. Health insurance: report a higher deductible

If you want a higher deductible in 2027, tell your insurer by 31 December, ideally a little earlier. Compare premiums

  7. Pillar 3a: the money must be with your foundation

Your 2026 contribution and any buy-in for 2025 must be booked to your 3a account by today. After that, the money only counts for next year. Start the 3a Check

  8. AHV: last chance to close the 2021 gap

Contribution gaps can only be closed for five years. For 2021, you must receive the ruling from the compensation office by the end of 2026. Close the gap

  9. Review your budget and investments

Year end: compare your spending with your budget and check your savings rate. Do your investments still match the split you planned? If they have drifted a lot, rebalance them. Create a budget

  10. Rent: last day for your reduction request to arrive

For the termination date of 31 March 2027 (three months' notice), your letter must reach your landlord today. Check the dates and notice period in your tenancy agreement. Lower your rent

January 2027

  1. Health insurance: new premiums apply

The average premium rises by 5 percent in 2027. If you switched, you are insured with your new insurer from today. 2027 premiums at a glance

  2. New values for AHV, pension fund and Pillar 3a

From today: AHV pension at least CHF 1'280 and at most CHF 2'560 a month, Pillar 3a up to CHF 7'373 (without a pension fund up to CHF 36'864), coordination deduction CHF 26'880. Pillar 3a calculator

  3. Switched insurer? Update your payments

Move your eBill or standing order to the new insurer and delete the old order. Keep your new insurance card handy. Health insurance helper

  4. Pillar 3a: pay in your 2027 contribution now?

If your 3a is invested in securities, paying in January keeps the money invested almost a year longer. You get the same tax deduction for 2027 as with a payment in December. Pillar 3a calculator

  5. Salary: check your new pay and agree on goals

Check on your January payslip that your salary and deductions are correct. Agree on goals for the year with your manager. They are what your performance will be measured against in the salary review. Understand your payslip

  6. Check accounts, fees and subscriptions

What do account fees, cards and your securities account cost per year? Does your savings account pay enough interest? Compare once a year and cancel subscriptions you no longer need. Watch the notice periods. Create a budget

February 2027

  1. Taxes: collect your documents

Salary certificate, 3a statement, interest statements and receipts for deductions usually arrive in January and February. Keep them in one place. File your tax return

  2. AHV: order your account statement

The individual account statement (IK) shows which contributions are recorded on your AHV account. Order it free of charge once a year from your compensation office. That way you find gaps while you can still close them. Close AHV gaps

March 2027

  1. Reference interest rate: new announcement from the federal government

The Federal Office for Housing publishes the reference interest rate for rents. Lower your rent

  2. Pension fund: check your pension certificate

If you live in the canton of Zurich and did not receive a form from SVA Zurich for 2026, you can apply yourself until the end of March 2027. The SVA calculator shows whether you are entitled. Lower your premiums

  5. Health insurance: switch on 1 July

With the standard model and the ordinary deductible, you can switch insurer on 1 July 2027. Your cancellation must reach the insurer by today. Create the cancellation letter

  6. Tax at source: apply for a subsequent ordinary assessment

If you are taxed at source and earn less than CHF 120'000 a year, you can apply for an ordinary assessment for 2026 by today. Only then do deductions such as Pillar 3a, a pension fund buy-in or childcare costs count. The application also applies to all following years. Save taxes

  7. 2026 tax return: deadline in most cantons

The deadline ends today in Zurich, Aargau, Basel, Geneva, Fribourg and Valais, among others. If your form shows a different date, that date applies. Apply for an extension before the deadline. File your tax return

April 2027

  1. Salary: write down your achievements

Note what you have achieved since January: projects, figures, feedback from customers. Then you have evidence rather than memories for your salary review.

  2. 2026 tax return: deadline in Zug and Ticino

In the cantons of Zug and Ticino, the tax return is due by 30 April. File your tax return
